Elders and leaders of Orimerunmu town in Obafemi Owode Local Govt of Ogun State have suspended a week long planned peaceful protest in support of their demand from dredging companies mining sand from Ogun river behind the community to either perform their corporate social responsibilities or vacate the Orimerunmu road.
The suspension was at the intervention of the Divisional Police Officer of Mowe, Folake Afeniforo, who met with the community elders in Orimerunmu during the protest.
Although, Afeniforo, a Chief Superintendent of Police, frowned at the decision of the community to embark on the peaceful protest without carrying along her office, which would have provided adequate information on reconciliation efforts made by her office between the dredgers and other groups in Orimerunmu community.
She acknowledged the very bad condition of the road, stressing that if has affected the functions of her patrol team in the area but urged the community leaders to allow peace to reign and trust that her office would broker a peace deal between the dredgers and the community on the matter.
She therefore arranged for a meeting of representatives of the elders and leaders of Orimerunmu community with the dredging companies tomorrow Tuesday, 29th of August at 10am in her office.
